Hi all, and welcome to this months update. Well firstly, this week, our passengers on our scheduled Wednesday Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour were lucky enough to see a large saltwater crocodile, 4-5 metres in length, sunning himself on the bank of the Bloomfield River. We had just successfully tackled the 4WD Bloomfield Track and crossed the Bloomfield River before heading through Wujal Wujal when we spotted this large saltwater crocodile making the most of the late morning sunshine on the river bank. Whilst there’s no guarantee we’ll see a saltwater crocodile on our tours, you just never know and that in itself makes spotting these dangerous predators in the wild so special! Thank You from Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours Just before I get onto our next subject, bucket lists, I’d like to thank again the local tourism industry who have got right behind Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours & indeed in our very first year of operating, it would now appear we are the only business now offering the full Cairns – Cooktown - Cairns day in an airconditioned, purpose built 4WD coach. Our passengers love their day with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours from the moment we pick them up till we drop them off, their day is exciting, memorable and never long enough! They see so much, such changing landscapes from sugar cane fields, to ancient rainforests, secluded rainforest beaches, the challenging 4WD Bloomfield Track, the historic Lions Den Hotel, charming Cooktown, the James Cook Museum, Grassy Hill Lookout with it’s panoramic views to the ocean blue Coral Sea, Black Mountain, open savannah, the arid and semi arid outback Palmer River Goldfields and of course the stunning views from the Byerstown Range. Is it any wonder our passengers have a fantastic, memorable day!! Questions or Feedback etc to Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours By the way, if you have any questions at all, be it about the tour itself or availabilities etc , do not hesitate to call me, Dale Forsyth, directly on 07 4031 4836 or 0438 318 280 or if you prefer, email me on [email protected] A great, recent example was from a group of 4 elderly Gold Coast ladies who said after their day that not only was their day better than they anticipated, however, if there had’ve been a portable step up into the Coach, it would’ve made it easier for them. Fantastic suggestion!!! The next day, I purchased a stable, portable step, texted a pic of it next to the Coach and sent it the 4 ladies, I instantly got 4 thumbs up from the ladies. And yes, I use this step every tour. Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour Bucket Lists! OK, so this brings me to bucket lists and specifically the bucket lists of the passengers that enjoy our Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour. We’re all different and so are our passengers, so it comes as no surprise that the bucket lists of our passengers vary greatly. Here’s an example: • Black Mountain • The 4WD Bloomfield Track • The Palmer River Goldfields • Daintree Rainforest & secluded Beach Walk • Cooktown • The James Cook Museum • Grassy Hill Lookout So you can see our passenger’s bucket lists can and do vary considerably! What’s on your bucket list? With our beautiful weather in place for another couple of months, this is the perfect time to be booking your preferred travel date with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours well in advance! Hope to see you soon on our Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour. Cheers, Dale Forsyth [email protected]

Hi all, with our glorious North Queensland weather combining with the cold, almost blizzard like conditions in Southern Australia, understandably, tourists are arriving in North Queensland in much greater numbers, so with limited seating in our air conditioned 4WD coach, please book your fabulous Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour well in advance to ensure that you travel on the day that best suits you. At the commencement of each Cairns To Cooktown tour, having welcomed our passengers on board, I like to make the point that it is their day & whilst we have a route to follow, by and large we can be fairly flexible within the day itself. Therefore I suggest to my passengers that if they have anything on their bucket list to see or do during the return day trip to Cooktown, or maybe a particular photo must or an opportunity they see along the way, to let me know and generally we canwork these requests into our unique day trip. Cheers, Dale Hi there, last Wednesday we enjoyed a fabulous full day tour with 11 passengers, a diverse group that consisted of 2 Sydney Doctors, their 2 boys & Grandma, 4 Kiwi Dairy Farmers and 2 retirees also from Sydney. It was a fun day! What a great group of people and so different to each other, backgrounds etc and they all so enjoyed their day with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours! It reminded yet again what an amazing part of the world we live in, here in Far North Queensland. Having picked up our 3 groups from Cairns & Port Douglas, we ventured off on our Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour adventure! Crossing our first major river for the day our vehicle ferry allowed us to get up “close and personal”, yet safely, to the awesome Daintree River, what a powerful North Queensland river right on the edge of the ancient, lush and tropical Daintree Rainforest. Having crossed the Daintree River, we made our way through the Daintree Rainforest in our comfortable air conditioned 4WD coach, it wasn’t long before we enjoyed a leg stretch on a wonderfully remote beach, talk about where the “rainforest meets the reef”. It couldn’t get any closer! Suffice to say, cameras & phones were all out taking great memories. Crocodile Spotting With Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours Further North, having successfully made it along one of Australia’s iconic 4WD’s, the Bloomfield Track, we start following another of North Queensland’s major river systems, the little known, yet majestic, Bloomfield River. This river, for most of our passengers, is quite unexpected not only with its size but also beauty. And this was our lucky day, pulling over in my normal spot, it wasn’t long before one of our passengers yelled out...”crocodile”! Sure enough, on the far bank of the Bloomfield River was a magnificent Saltwater Crocodile, probably 4m in length, sunning himself on the bank of the river. We all love to see wild life in their natural habitat and this was no exception with all our 11 passengers rating it as a highlight of their day. I’ve attached a pic taken from our vantage point & if you look closely enough you maybe able to see this big croc. THE BLOOMFIELD RIVER WITH CROCODILE SUNNING HIMSELF ON THE FAR BANK Travelling further North as we made our way to Cooktown, Bruce from Sydney asked if we could pop into the historic Lions Den Hotel, of course we could! A cold ale, some great photos and we were on our way. Refreshed and with Cooktown only a further 25klm’s we pass through the mysterious Black Mountain National Park, mysterious indeed. This can only be described as an Australian geological wonder! It’s not long before we cross our 3rd major North Queensland river system, the mighty Annan River. This magnificent river, some 66 kilometres long flows through several National Parks including Black Mountain. The old timber bridge you can see in the photo is now heritage listed and can be seen quite easily from the new modern bridge now in place. Again, none of our passengers on our tour had heard of let alone seen the Annan River before. Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours is more than just a scenic drive, there’s history, there’s mystery, mighty rivers & salt water crocodiles! THE HERITAGE LISTED TIMBER BRIDGE OVER THE ANNAN RIVER We arrive in Cooktown, and all our passengers agree what a charming North Queensland town it is! With lunch sorted at the Cooktown Hotel, better known as The Top Pub & yes, it was our shout, we head to Australia’s best regional museum, the James Cook Museum and yes, we cover your admission here too! By the way, did you know Cooktown is the closest port in Australia to the Great Barrier Reef? True! Having seen the sights of Cooktown, we now head back home via the outback passing through and enjoying a leg stretch & coffee/cold ale in the Palmer Goldfields. A time to reflect on what has been a great day and adventure! Some Highlights From this Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Adventure

(See image below) Cassowary Watch on our Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tour Also, only last week, our group of Vietnamese tourists were lucky enough to witness a rare sighting of a juvenile Cassowary, as we made our way through the Daintree Rainforest, resulting in lots of ooh’s & ah’s! The State of Queensland’s floral emblem……..the Cooktown Orchid!
With our weather here in Far North Queensland, on the improve, the Easter weekend may well be a great time for you to enjoy our fabulous full day tour to Cooktown. As I said in my last blog, given the amount of rain we’ve received across our wet season, the colours of our local landscape have been particularly enhanced, especially the many shades of green. So, if you’re yet to make plans for Easter, why not a day you’ll always remember with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours. Hope to see you on our next tour! Cheers, Dale Well, as much as we all at Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours appreciate the rainfall, I’ve got to say that with Cairns having received approximately 1,600mm of rain to date from January 1st, it is very nice to see the sun out! Yes, I know it’s been the wet season but that represents approximately 400mm more rainfall than the long term average, across the year to date. I think it would be fair to say that cyclone Penny in January & cyclone Trevor in March were the main reasons for this spectacular wet season. Of course with the rain, there are enormous benefits to the eco system and we’d all agree that is a good thing. So, with our wet season drawing to a close for another year, the region is looking good and of course our wonderful tourists will start arriving shortly in big numbers. For this reason, it’s in your own interest to book well in advance to secure the travel date that best suits you for your fabulous day tour with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours. Remember, we cater to a maximum of just 15 passengers. To recap, your awesome day includes:

Firstly, if Cooktown is on your bucket list, do it, then tick it off your list! You’ll have a day with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours that you’ll long remember. If Cooktown is not on your bucket list, consider it and don’t let our current monsoonal rainfall, more like deluges put you off.
As you may know, at Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours, we made a conscious decision as a business to do our daily coach tours to & from Cooktown in January, February and March via the inland, outback route. This decision has been more than vindicated with the coastal Bloomfield Track recently closed because of flooding, not to mention the rock falls and potential slippages etc. By choosing to travel to and from Cooktown during our regular “wet season”, the safety, comfort and convenience of all those that travel with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours is assured. Having said that, it’s been many years since I’ve personally seen the country side heading into Cooktown looking as lush and green as it is now, all as a result of the current monsoonal rain. Ok, this should put a smile on the faces of those travellers contemplating their day trip to Cooktown. Effective immediately and till March 31st, Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours has just introduced its Low Season price structure with Adult fares now just AUD $199 and Children (4-14 years) now just AUD $159. That’s right, those travellers that do the fabulous return day trip to Cooktown with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours in February and March will only pay AUD $199 per Adult & AUD $159 per child. That’s a saving of AUD $60 per ticket! And yes, all your inclusions still apply. You’ll receive free cold bottled water throughout the day, we’ll pay for your lunch at The Cooktown Hotel, better known these days as The Top Pub and we’ll even pay your admission to Australia’s best regional museum, The James Cook Museum! How good is that? So stop contemplating and book your seat with Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours today! You’ll be pleased you did. Travel From Cairns To Cooktown Via Lakeland Downs By the way, do you know why the soil around the Lakeland Downs area is so rich & fertile? I’ve heard some people say that this soil is so “nutreous”, you can eat it! That might be taking it a bit far. However, it is a fact that this area that we pass through on our Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours is wonderfully rich and fertile thus allowing crops like bananas, coffee mango etc to thrive and flourish. Why? Because Lakeland Downs and the surrounding area sits inside a vast historic volcanic crater, providing soil conditions that many farmers can only wish for. So, with that, I’ll sign off and encourage you to take advantage of our super Low Season ticket prices at Cairns To Cooktown 4WD Tours during February & March. Hope to see you on our next tour. Cheers, Dale |
